People may experience hearing loss at almost any age. Some babies may experience hearing loss inside the birth canal. However, hearing loss is normally associated with aging and here’s where the best digital hearing aids can help

Look for the following signs of hearing loss

You find yourself speaking more loudly or quietly than normal. Many times people with hearing loss begin to have difficulty in hearing their own voice. Without realizing it, they may be speaking much louder than the rest of the crowd. If a spouse or other loved one has made note of the loud conversation, the person may overcompensate and speak very softly.

If you notice that your family comes into a room where you are listening to the radio or watching television, and immediately begin turning down the volume, this may be a sign of hearing loss. Persons with hearing loss turn up the volume, believing that the show is running quiet tonight.

People with conductive hearing loss may have difficulty hearing speech on the telephone. Some will actually stop using the telephone, without realizing that hearing loss is the problem. Fortunately, today most phones have built in volume controls that allow the user to turn up the volume in order to better hear the conversation. Another person may pick up your phone and make a comment about the volume as a sign of your hearing problem. Cell phones pose a totally different problem, as many of the ring tones simply blend into the background noise for persons with hearing deficiency. Many people with loss of hearing have difficulty hearing conversations on cell phones, even when the volume is turned to high.

If your hearing loss took place at an early age, you may have learned to compensate through reading of lips. In fact, many persons may not even know that they have a problem until a change in visual ability makes it difficult for them to "hear." A person who reads lips will position himself or herself in such a way that they are directly facing the other person in the conversation. Persons with facial hair make lip reading difficult for some persons who read lips.

Some persons with hearing challenges will dominate a conversation. They find it easier to continue talking rather than face a question that they may not understand.

Another sign of difficulty hearing may be that family or friends suddenly remind you of promises made of which you have no recollection. With Proline hearing aid batteries, your mind may fill in the words of a conversation with what makes sense to you. Subconsciously, you have heard and agreed to something of which you have no idea. This can lead to embarrassing moments for persons just beginning to show signs of hearing loss. This is a good sign that someone you know might need batteries for hearing aids.

If your signs of hearing loss are causing you difficulty in relationships or at work be sure to check with a local Florida audiologist. Sometimes it may be caused by a wax buildup in the ear canal. The hearing professional or your doctor can remove this build up and restore your hearing to normal.

The fact is that as our population ages, hearing aids are becoming ever more common. However, not all hearing aids are the same

The kind of hearing aid you might need all depends on your lifestyle and the degree of hearing loss that you’re experiencing.

>> To find info on hearing aids choices Click here

Some models of digital hearing aids are completely enclosed inside the ear so you can hardly see them. A lot of people like these because it’s so hard to tell that you’re wearing a hearing aid.

These devices are usually only for those with a minor hearing loss, however. As well, there are more limits on the features available, like volume control for example. For some people, this just might not be a good solution.

Another type of hearing aid is one that fits partly into the ear canal. This style is barely noticeable, but still maintains some important features such as volume control.

Some of these hearing aids even come with remote control devices to help with the volume issue. Because these devices have more options, they can be used by people who have mild to moderately severe hearing loss.

Most hearing aids are fitted either into the ear or just behind it. In the ear devices fill the space in the cup of the ear. With the behind the ear models, one piece goes into the ear. The volume control and battery units fit behind your ear.

The downside of these models is that they are more visible. On the bright side, they feature longer batter life. Plus they feature more options for control so you can maximize the benefits of this technology.

Hearing aids are comprised of three components: the microphone, amplifier and speaker. The microphone is the part of the device that picks up the sounds that are emitted around you. The amplifier helps you hear better by increasing the level of sound around you. The speaker component relays the enhanced sound to the ear so you can hear it easily.

Hearing aid batteries are another essential component. They will need to be replaced from time to time, even in a properly working device. They’re generally quite inexpensive. Depending on the particular kind you need, they generally cost between four and seven dollars.

Hopefully, this information will help you make the right decision on getting the best hearing aid for your particular circumstances.

In fact, they’re so important that a lot of people who wear a hearing aid keep a hearing aid battery tester handy. That way they can tell when the battery is beginning to run out of power. Then they can be prepared with spare batteries when it needs to be replaced.

The length of time that hearing aid batteries will last depends on the style of hearing aid being worn. The smaller hearing aids that fit into the ear canal have a shorter battery life. The reason is that these are smaller batteries and don’t have as much of the power producing components.

Older styles of hearing aid batteries used mercury to power the device. But there are newer zinc batteries that are much more effective and therefore more commonly used.

Something called zinc air is the secret behind zinc batteries. This is a mixture of oxygen in the air along with the zinc present inside the battery. This produces a reaction that powers the battery. They have about twice the life of the conventional mercury batteries.

You’ll find that zinc hearing aid batteries have a color coded tab. One of the reasons for this is so you can know the size of the battery. However, it also prevents air from entering the battery until you’re ready to start using it.

As soon as the tab is pulled off, oxygen starts to enter the battery. As the oxygen combines with the zinc, the battery becomes activated. For this reason the tab should not be removed until you’re ready to use it so it doesn’t start losing power.

Most hearing aids today use one of four different sizes of batteries that are readily available. There’s a specific size of battery for every type of hearing aid out there. A number 10 battery with a yellow color code is the smallest you can purchase. The largest size is 675 and is labeled in blue. The small sizes are most commonly used for the smaller digital hearing aids that go into the ear canal. The large sizes are used for the behind the ear hearing aids.

The larger sizes are longer lasting since there is room to hold more zinc inside the battery. However, they are a lot more bulky. Many people would rather change the battery more often and have a less noticeable hearing aid.
